IBM has recently unveiled a groundbreaking AI-powered SSD designed to combat ransomware threats at an unprecedented speed.
The innovative technology, known as the FlashCore Module (FCM) 4, is integrated into the IBM Storage FlashSystem, enabling real-time detection and neutralization of ransomware and other cyber threats in under 60 seconds. This development comes in response to the escalating concern over ransomware attacks, with reports indicating that 89% of organizations consider it a top existential threat.
The FCM4 leverages advanced machine learning models to continuously monitor I/O statistics, empowering it to swiftly identify and respond to potential threats. By providing organizations with rapid threat detection capabilities, IBM aims to bolster their resilience against cyberattacks, ultimately facilitating faster recovery and response times.
In addition to the FCM4, IBM has also introduced an enhanced version of its Storage Defender software, which incorporates Cohesity’s DataProtect and Index Engines’ CyberSense. This integration expands the software’s threat detection capabilities, offering end-to-end data resilience in hybrid multi-cloud IT environments.
The updated software is designed to improve organizations’ ability to detect and respond to a wide range of cyber threats, further strengthening their cybersecurity posture.
According to Sam Werner, VP of IBM Storage Product Management, the combined capabilities of the FlashSystem and Defender technologies offer a comprehensive approach to enhancing data resilience.
The integration allows storage administrators to create protection groups with specific volumes, automatically backed up according to user-defined policies. Moreover, immutable copies of data can be restored or recovered to multiple target locations, including different locations when recovering from a cyberattack. Additionally, immutable copies can be replicated to another IBM Storage Defender cluster, providing an additional layer of protection.
While other SSD suppliers may consider adding similar AI-scanning capabilities, IBM’s unique advantage lies in its Storage Defender, which serves as the resource for its customers to respond to attack alerts. This strategic positioning enables IBM to deliver a holistic solution that addresses the evolving cybersecurity landscape.
