In a bold move during MWC 2024, Huawei took center stage to champion the advancements of 5.5G technology, heralding it as the key to unlocking the untapped potential of networks and paving the way for new growth opportunities.
According to PRN News, Li Peng, Huawei’s Corporate Senior Vice President and President of ICT Sales & Service, emphasized the transformative power of 5.5G, stating that it is poised to redefine the landscape of mobile networks. Peng noted the remarkable success of 5G, with its commercialization in 2019 and a swift adoption rate that now boasts 1.5 billion users worldwide within just five years.
Drawing a comparison to its predecessor, Peng highlighted that it took nine years for 4G to achieve a similar milestone. Currently, 20% of global mobile subscribers utilize 5G, generating 30% of all mobile traffic and contributing to 40% of mobile service revenue. With the advent of 5.5G in 2024, Peng foresees a convergence of 5.5G, AI, and cloud technologies, presenting carriers with the opportunity to unlock new applications and capabilities.
The novel features of 5.5G, including deterministic latency, precise positioning, and passive IoT, are expected to open up avenues for carriers in the B2B market, creating diverse opportunities for growth. Huawei, having played a pivotal role in advancing 5.5G, proudly shared that it has collaborated with operators globally, initiating commercial verification and testing in over 20 cities to establish ubiquitous networks that propel us into an ‘intelligent world’ at an accelerated pace.
AI, unsurprisingly, took center stage in Huawei’s presentations, with Huawei Cloud showcasing its potential as the “infrastructure of choice for AI applications.” The unveiling of ten AI-oriented innovations, such as KooVerse, Distributed QingTian architecture, AI compute, AI-Native storage, E2E security, GaussDB, Data-AI convergence, Media infrastructure, Landing Zone, and Flexible deployment, underscored Huawei’s commitment to AI integration across various sectors. Additionally, Huawei delved into the role of AI in driving an exponential surge in data traffic.
Predicting the future, the company anticipates that by 2026, AI will be instrumental in producing over 250 billion images and 70 million videos. This forecast signifies a paradigm shift in content creation, with AI generating over 100 billion gigabytes of data and propelling a colossal one trillion gigabytes of data traffic, for which 5.5G is poised to play a pivotal role.
As Huawei continues to steer the narrative towards an interconnected, intelligent future, the revelations from MWC 2024 mark a significant step forward in the evolution of mobile networks and the integration of AI technologies on a global scale. The journey toward an ‘intelligent world’ is now more tangible than ever, and Huawei remains at the forefront, steering the industry towards a future defined by connectivity, innovation, and transformative possibilities.
